Your Sisters Creative Community Program

Your Sisters has begun a creative program to provide the women of Tanzania with an avenue to upward mobility and economic self-sufficiency. Today these women are currently working in various locations as part of the Creative Community Program.

Our vision, however, is for this intimate creative community entrepreneurship center to become a major part of our sanctuary for women.  Women will use their own creative design skills to make authentic African art, crafts, fashion items, accessories and clothing from the region’s abundant textiles, minerals and raw materials. As our young orphan girls mature, we will encourage and implement a big sister/little sister mentorship program, to allow the girls to become integrated into the extended community environment. We believe that this environment in which women are learning skills and strengthening and enjoying themselves will be a healthy and nurturing ‘greenhouse’ environment for all the young girls we impact.

Our long-term goal is to empower the women in our programs to achieve
self-sufficiency and to propel their lives forward. In this way, it is our dream that the sales of the women’s special hand-craften items  will allow our sanctuary (including the orphanage and school) to become self-supporting. Our long term goal is to have these unique East African items made by the women of YS shared with the world and to use the profits to bolster each woman directly as well as to underpin all YS programs.
